Spirituality OR ‘Spirit’uality? What is your choice?

-->

The other day I was watching this movie ‘Rustam’. A very common scene in any movie. Mr. Rustam realized that his wife was not honest to him, and he started drinking wine. This is a very common shot in any movie. Whenever someone is in depression due to any failures, be it girlfriend leaving, failing in exams, not getting a job or losing a job or anything else, all our “Hero” resort to drinks to get the ‘relief’. It’s not only depression, but celebration as well. If one wants to celebrate engagement, a girl saying yes to you, getting a business deal, passing exams,  birthday or anything else,  all celebrations lead to drinking.

As if there is no other way to handle stress or celebrate!!

I was just wondering what message my 13 year old son would take back home? If he faces stress in life, would he look for a bottle of whisky? May be, may be not! It is up to me to show him other ways. Like any other responsible parent, I must show him alternatives to celebrate or to handle stressful situations. If I don’t do that, I am sure the movie and entertain media would continuously bombard him with only one choice. I am sure the entertainment media would never show a person in stressful situations doing meditation, or going to a temple or going to nature. They would not do so because the media gets a lot of money from wine and tobacco industries for obvious reasons. The real spiritual ‘industry’ would not fund them!

It is simple. If you see advertisement of only Colgate on TV and everywhere else, you will not know of other choices unless you go to shop. But the problem here is that you will not go to a general shop, but to Colgate exclusive shop where nobody will tell you to buy something else. There might be other shops existing around you, but you don’t know them because you have seen only Colgate and you are convinced that it is the best.

If you got the message, it is up to you to start protecting your next generation. Teach them meditation which is the best remedy for stress and other emotions arising out of stress. Let’s accept that in changing world of food, lifestyle, peer pressure, competition etc., there would be more stress, more adverse situations in the lives of our children. If they learn to meditate since their childhood, they would have developed a taste of the same. Not only that, they would have become more stable and strong already to not even react on adversaries of life.

Just protect our current and next generations through right spirituality!!

Health, Mind, and six enemies

Today thought of writing on spirituality and its relations with mind and in turn on health.
Our scriptures have mentioned below as our enemies -
Lust
Greed
Anger
Arrogance
Attachment
Jealousy

Why are they called enemies?
So, what does an enemy do to us? An enemy causes us financial loss, family loss, material loss, health loss, status loss or some other loss. Now, when we take a look at these above 6 enemies, they are within us. If we are prey to any of these, our mind becomes a slave to that, this causes some emotional changes that in turn cause physical changes. Consider anger. Too much anger affects our blood pressure. Any changes in our system, though subtle, is going to sow the seed for some disease, either in near term or long term. Also, an impure mind makes wrong decisions. If the mind is under the influence of arrogance, that mind may cause relationship problems, either at home front or at business front.
Thus, these enemies are going to cause some or other loss and hence they prove their name as 'enemies'.
How to conquer them?
Now that you have above knowledge, you need to observe the same. How to detach yourself from yourself and start observing rise and fall of these enemies within yourself?

The only technique that has survived all changes, all invasions, all times and still prove to be successful is Yoga. Learn wherever you can. I preach Art of Living (@SriSri, @artofliving).
That will give you the capability to observer our own mind, tune it, in turn tune your health for a better living.

Yateen..
